A stochastic modeling approach for traffic analysis of a tramway system with virtual tags and local positioning

Abstract Traditional solutions for tramway interlocking systems are based on physical sensors (balizes) distributed along the infrastructure which detect passing of trams and trigger different actions, like communications with ground system. This approach is not easily scalable maintainable, it costly. The SISTER project designed new architectural addressing previous problems virtualization local positioning each tram. key idea to actions when computed position corresponds a virtual tag. Therefore, important understand impact these traffic that supported network. paper presents stochastic modeling analysing performability system solutions, aiming identify parts network more critical sensible variation conditions setting parameters. We build model using Stochastic Activity Networks run sensitivity analyses (i) accuracy positioning, (ii) parameters, (iii) considering possible outages temporarily blocking journey analysis allows properly set fine-tune outages.
